The Christmas and New Year holidays are usually a happy experience but sometimes the long winter nights get boring especially if you spend them at home. When the children go to sleep and you don’t want to watch TV, maybe the time has come to start learning Greek online. This way you will make sense of the cold and dark winter nights and next year when you go to Greece, everybody will be jealous because you can start a conversation in Greek and they can’t.

The solution is provided by the Greek Language Center (www.greeklanguage.gr), which opened a new portal (www.greek-language.gr) especially for online lessons. The lessons are suitable for everyone and are free. They can be of interest to university ptofessors, Greek teachers, students, and people who just want to learn the basis of the language. The lessons are also for Greek who want to widen their language knowledge and foreigners, beginners, and advanced people in and outside Greece.

The new portal offers modern and ancient Greek lessons. There you can also find Greek literature and history courses. There are three types of online dictionaries, among which are Greek-English dictionary and Greek-Greek dictionary. The portal’s design eases the user very much because it is effective and easy to surf. It includes wide range of information and it really is a window to the Greek language and culture in the digital era for beginners and advanced people.

September of this year the Greek Language Center was awarded with the European Language Sign for Innovative online programs for language learning. The portal gives you information about the official Greek language exams (http://www.greek-language.gr/greekLang/certification/index.html), which during 2009 will take place on May 13th and 14th and the registration for them will be online from February 2nd until March 23rd 2009.
