What do an architect, an economist, a musician, a journalist, a curator, an actor, an animator, another journalist, a team of directors and an architectural office have in common? Only the Pecha Kucha Night of course! “10 speakers X 20 images X 20 seconds” is the name of the first Pecha Kucha Night organized in Athens. It will take place in the modern buildings with loft-apartments in Theseio, a neighborhood which is turning into an artistic centre in Athens.

The night will be dedicated to architecture, art, science, and all kinds of creative work. It is originally devised by the British architect Klein-Dytham (http://www.klein-dytham.com/), and today it is spread in over 140 cities worldwide. The first Pecha Kucha Night in Athens will take place on December 5th in the art centre in Thission Lofts and is expected to attract people from different interests.

What is Pecha Kucha? It is a new and different way to introduce ideas and creations of young artists from all areas: architects, journalists, economists, gastronomes, artists, designers, etc in one night, which widens the horizons and aims to ease the unofficial presentation, without having to rent galleries, and to encourage the “chit-chat” dialogue between the artist and the audience: 10 speakers x 20 images x 20 seconds or in other words – everyone who is presenting their work will have 6 minutes and 40 seconds to introduce one topic in 20 images.

This time restriction aims to make the introductions understandable, concise, meaningful, with accuracy and humor, to give the opportunity to many artists to show their work, and to keep the interest of the public. The worldwide Pecha Kucha events are mostly visited by young people between 20 to 40 years old, who work in the art and design field.

During the Pecha Kucha Night, ten Greeks will show their work: Konstantinos Lambrinopoulos (www.klab.gr), Dimitris Tsigos – architect, Eleni Tzavara – musician (www.myspace.com/elenitzavara), Konstantinos Lukas Rolandos Kiriekos, Coti K – music production and composition (www.cotik.com), screenwriters White Room (www.whiteroom.gr), Iannis Sarakatsis from theatrical formation AbOvo, animators and video artists LoKey (www.lokey.gr), Todoris Gergakopoulos – blogger (www.spitoskylo.gr), Iannis Nenes – journalist (www.athensvoice.gr), Iannis Katsarakis – economist, and Kostantinos Dagritsikos (www.bigprojectspace.com).

During the following year, Pecha Kucha Night will be organized around different places in Athens in order for more artists to be able to show their work. This way, the whole city will be involved. Entrance is free.
