Forty cases of swine flu daily are registered in Greece, because the tourist season is in its peak and more and more tourists arrive in the country.

Meanwhile the health of the 33 year old man, who was admitted in the hospital with bronchopneumonia as a result of swine flu infection, is still hospitalized in Crete. His condition is improving but even though he doesn’t have fever anymore, but he is still on IV in the ER, because the damage to his lungs is serious.

Registered were infected people from the Navy and a doctor from Retimno in Crete. The doctor felt some symptoms of swine flu last week during her shift and on the next day she stayed home to do the necessary treatment.

It is necessary to note that one third of swine flu cases are on the Ionian islands and on Crete. Those places are preferred by British tourists, who come to visit Greece.

Since last Monday, 173 out of a total of 520 people infected with the H1N1 virus were on the Ionian islands (91 people) and on Crete (82 people), which proves that the infection increase is due to the incoming tourists.

This is also proven by data of the Diseases Control and Prevention Center, which says that 310 infected are travelers, who had been abroad one week before the symptoms occurred and another 27 have been in contact with someone who has been abroad. This means that 337 out of 520 cases can be characterized are “imported.” The percentage of people infection in the provinces is very low. The infected cases today are about 650 and most of them are mild and patients are left on a home treatment.

For now, the information about when the vaccines will be made, is very confusing. Greece is one of the country, which has asked to start vaccinating people from September.
