The New Greek Radio, Internet and TV (NERIT) will start broadcasting at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday with a newscast, a Greek and a foreign movie and a sports show.

About 11 months after the closure of the National Television ERT and the creation of a transitional public television in its place, according to NERIT’s President George Prokopakis the countdown will start with a modest ceremony shortly before 6:00 p.m., when the logo of the channel will be presented.

"Our main priority when we started working was to launch NERIT before the elections in order to have balance," said Prokopakis for the Athens News Agency.

He stressed that the one week delay from the initially set date of 27 April was due to procedural reasons and the need to regulate relations with the Union of European public broadcasters EBU.

The new channel will start operating with a lot of problems with 16 new shows, which will gradually start to be broadcast over the next two weeks, as well as information programmes for the local and European elections on Tuesdays (except for next Tuesday because of Eurovision).

According to Prokopakis, the full coverage of the elections will be a big challenge. He expressed optimism that they will have full representation and the presence of candidates of all parties.
