The Bridge Project performance, which premiered in London on June 18 and excited audiences and critics, will be back in London after Athens, and will end its world tour in early 2012 in New York.
The British press welcomes with dithyrambs the premiere of "Richard III” by William Shakespeare, whose director is Sam Mendes.
"This Richard the Third will make the deepest imprint in our memories from the period of Kevin Spacey in Old Vic”.
Here you can see the first viewer’s reactions after the premiere of the play:
In the version of Sam Mendes, Richard lives in the modern era and becomes the archetype of the ruler. As the “Guardian” newspaper writes, “Spacey does not reject the interpretation of Olivier, who represented Richard as satanic joker - as done by Antony Sher and Ian McKellen in the past. What is offered to us is a variety of delicate shades: On one hand, his instinctively comic brio, and on the other his self-destruction." In this magnificent production "Spacey confirms that he belongs to the great, classic tradition of the theater", the critics end.
The diligence and dedication with which Kevin Spacey always acts, leads to remarkable results.
As regards to the choice of Richard III, they have chosen him after numerous conversations with Mendes, with whom Spacey works for the first time in the film “American beauty” (and wins an Oscar for Best Actor).
"Sam and I talked a lot for the last two years about which production to do", the actor said. "There were many options.Ultimately we chose Richard the Third. One reason was that I played Richard the Second for three years in the Old Vic and therefore wanted something different. Richard the Third is one of Shakespeare’s major, iconic characters but also the second biggest role after Hamlet ", added Spacey.
