By April 15th, you could send an application for participation in the International Health Film Festival “Ippocratis” on the island of Kos. One of the conditions is that if the movie is not in English it has to have subtitles in English. Besides this the sponsors prefer to have the movies in MPEG 2 format High or standard to the maximum bit rate, so that you can provide the best quality.

The festival is divided in four categories: competitive part for full-length movies, competitive part for middle length movies, competitive part for short-length movies and a competitive part for Greek movies.

The jury consists of movie experts and doctors. Some of the members of the jury are Andreas Thomopoulos – one of the founding members of the Scriptwriters’ Guild of Greece, Ilias Theodoropoulos – pathologist, b.h. Yael – video and installation artist and Professor at the Ontario College of Art & Design in Toronto, Canada, Hans Bosscher – producer of documentaries for Discovery International, National Geographic, NHK and PBS, Katarina Peters – founder of the German movie production company Katarina Peters Filmproduktion, Theophilos Rosenebrg - Associate professor of surgery.

At the last year’s first Health Film Festival the first prize won the movie „The English surgeon” of the English-Australian director Geoffrey Smith. The movie was made in an Ukrainian hospital full of despairing patients and an improvised equipment where the brain surgeon Henry Marsh is fighting the dilemmas of the relationships between a doctor and a patient.

Second prize was awarded to Rick Minnich for the movie “Forgetting Dad” about the amnesia Rick’s father receives after having a light car accident. In September the third place was awarded to the movie of the Swedish directors Peå Holmquist and SuzanneKhardalian “Young Freud in Gaza”, which tells the story of young Ayed – the only psychologist in Gaza, who every day takes his bag and goes to visit the refugee camp in order to prevent the suicidal thoughts of little children, young men and women members of Hamas.
