“ROOMS 2009” exhibition is organized by Kappatos gallery, which gives free scope to 25 curators, art historians, theater experts, choreographers and architects to choose and present one visual artist or group, who will show their works in different rooms of a hotel on top of Mount Lycabettus.
Thirty visual artists from Greece and abroad will take part in the exhibition and meanwhile the hotel will show visual-sound, photo and stage installations, performances, film screenings and other works. Each artist will present his/her works in a hotel room on separate floors. This way the specific floor will represent the personal space of the author.
The choice to make the exhibition in a different place – in a hotel, comes from the desire and choice for autonomous presentation of the authors in one space. It also comes from the need for contemporary art to take up its own place and at the same time to be public.
The hotel has its own structure and functions within the city – it is visited by people, who stay in it, meet and communicate. This place, where usually visitors are foreigners and people from the city just go there in order to do something different, has turned into an art gallery. This way the role of the hotel is enriched and it adopts a cultural and communicative character by becoming a stage for artists.
