Members of the "Initiative for the rights of detainees", said the new draft is in the right direction, but at the same time does not meet any of the demands of prisoners and would not cause a reduction in the number of prisoners. According to them this could happen with a change in the legislation by reducing the number of misconducts, requiring detention and decriminalization of the drug use. "Almost 60% of inmates are using drugs and were sentenced for drugs use because with them were found quantities that it is obvious that are for personal use. You can not punish one person for damaging himself", say members of the movement and stressed that in countries like USA, France and Portugal, where the measure has been introduced results are not bad.
According to the "Initiative for the rights of detainees", the aim of the prisoners is through peaceful protests to introduce the public with the problems and to force the authorities to accept their demands. The case against the officers who left the prisoners in Korydallos burn alive had to be heard one month ago but it was postponed once again.
