According to the mayor, the influx of new economic migrants should be immediately discontinued, if there were no way to allow these people to stay on Macedonian territory. "We feared that there might be tension today. There are no longer people in the place, only police. The police are taking people to the buses, they are getting into them and leaving," said Goudenoudis. He added that the municipal services were ready to start clearing the region of tents and waste any moment.
In parallel, he noted a change in the policy of the Greek government to migrants. "Yesterday (Tuesday - editor’s note) the police told me that the buses, which I saw passing by Polikastro, were transporting only Syrians, Afghans and Iraqis. This is a positive development. Ultimately, there must be a regular flow of people and crowding must be prevented," the mayor said in an interview with Thessaloniki radio Praktorio 104.9.
