So, we released the actual message that indicates the speech of Gen. Gortni made on the 25th of March that “no such munitions have been used so far.” This means that they have such bombs and do not exclude the possibility to use them. Our fears stem from the fact that the bombs with depleted uranium are penetrative and can be used in attacks against the underground bunkers of Qaddafi.

Is it possible the whole region around the Mediterranean to be affected in this case?

The radiation in the smoke formed over the burning depleted uranium is not climbing high as in the outbreak of nuclear reactors. However, it covers quite a distance around the area. Therefore, when the Greek troops had to be deployed in Kosovo experts went there first, who measured the radiation, excavated and removed the soil in the area three times to clean the surface from the radiation. It can not be cleaned in any way, because the uranium descends gradually down and reaches the water in less consistency, of course. Then the consequences are not so serious. So, in this case the consequences will be borne by the people of Libya. But we as doctors are concerned about the health of all people and believe that there is no reason to pollute the soil with additional radiation.
