Greek mythology inspired the world famous designer Karl Lagerfeld to give a new look to the well known yearly calendar of Pirelli. The artist stands behind the concept for 2011, which presents the beauty of the female body through the symbols of the ancient Greece and Rome. A total of 21 models recreate the hedonistic side of life in elegant black and white photographs. From the images radiate the majesty and boldness of modern Olympic gods, and the naked bodies look as if they have been carved by the hand of Michelangelo. According to Lagerfeld actresses and models, transformed into heroes from the mythology represent a new concept of the beautiful, which has not so far been present in the calendars of Pirelli.

Unlike any other year in 2011 will be presented for the first time male model. The divinely handsome young man from Great Britain Jake Davis took his place among the most beautiful and well-paid female models in the world presented in the calendar. Actress Julianne Moore is another celebrity that is involved in the project and gives a taste of realism of the project between the perfectly sculpted models from the catwalks.

When asked why the project was titled "Mythology", Lagerfeld replied: "Because this is my favorite type of religion - for each case there is one god". He describes himself as a polytheist (from the Greek "bow down before many gods") and is associated with modern religions, which offer only one god. "I prefer mythology in which there is no hell, no sin (which is an obstacle to happiness) and without forgiveness," says the designer. He says that his love for ancient cultures began in his childhood, when he first read Homer's "Iliad" and defines it as a source of education.

Company's gift, the publishing of which over the years has become a top fashion event, has won popularity with both the beautiful women who each year adorn the months of Pirelli, and with their uniqueness. The calendar is not sold and is only for a limited number of chosen people. "You can not buy it, which creates a mystical aura". According to Karl Lagerfeld through the uniqueness of its annual calendar, the company producing automobile tires has created an image that is far ahead of its time. When the Italian company Pirelli started the business, they produced products for trucks and mechanics, but soon they turned their production in work of art.
