The third package of financial aid for Athens will be "much more limited" compared to the previous two packages, said German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble in an interview, who this week already talked about the possibility that Greece will be given a third financial aid package.
"We are foreseeing more financial aid, provided that the government in Athens will meet its commitments and keep in mind that it will include amounts that will be much more limited compared to the current ones," said Schaeuble for the economic newspaper "Handelsblatt".
Earlier this week, German Finance Minister said that Eurozone countries should support Greece even after 2014 and in this way departed from the official German and European line, according to which any decision on the matter should be postponed for the next year.
Schaeuble explained for "Handelsblatt" his direct statement that caused quite a stir, since Germany is in the throes of an election campaign. "I do not want to be accused after the elections of not having told the truth in advance," he said. "Therefore, I am pleased that the public has already understood what I have been saying and repeating since 2012: next year, we will have to consider new measures for Greece."
