Femineity, beauty and romance out of the hands of the young lady Provopoulos

The fashion collection of the cult boutique Theia, which is located in the heart of Athens, is full of youth, femineity and beauty. Handmade corsets and dresses with bare shoulders in bright happy colours turn the gray daily life in a fantastic fairy-scene where the woman is the main character as in a romantic film. This was the feeling that the collection of Theia brought in me, when I saw part of it for the first time. Obviously inspired by the romantic periods of the 1930s, 1950s and 1960s, the basic motive of the summer designs is THEIA loves that swing!

A bit of the stellar charm of Marylin Monroe and the sophisticated rock & roll look of Betty Page combined with the childhood naivete of bright colours make a sense of playfulness, but of mild nostalgia for times gone by too. This collection reminds us that, despite the hectic routine of the 21st century, women remain the light ethereal beings created for love, tenderness and entertainment.

Founder of the fashion house is the ambitious and talented Theodora Provopoulos, the daughter of one of the strongest men of the day in Greece – the President of the Bank of Greece George Provopoulos. For the difficult tasks his father is obliged with and her role as part of the family, Theodora confessed for the Greek edition Espresso, that she has a moral duty to support his father however she can, when he has a lot of work to do.

But one thing is certain - regardless of who her father is, she would not succeed without hard work and talent.

Besides the regular collection, Theia offers custom-made corsets. And if the devil is in the details as they say in Greece, these corsets are devilish good. Silk, lace, ribbons and a thin mesh of stainless steel are the flesh and bone of the dress that accentuates the most feminine in a woman. Theia’s corsets are made with love and attention accruing to a piece of art, as the motto is “Corsets created to love your body.” Some of her customers are Greek celebrities like Despina Vandi, Katja Ziguli (Greek model and mother of Sakis Rouvas’ child) and several other TV hosts, singers and Galena Velikova – the Bulgarian sport dance champion and critic in the Dancing with the stars TV show.

Interesting is the story of the young designer as she has invested much time and efforts in a very different training before she devoted to fashion. She is a graduate of Oxford University and obtained a diploma in economics and in philosophy. After completing her academic education in 2003, the young woman stayed in the corporate world of economic sciences for some time. Then she decided that she has to start doing something with her hands to feel really happy. So, she decided to go to Spain and found a job as a saleswoman in a clothing boutique. There she realized for the first time the beauty and the elegance the corsets give the female figure. She studied at the Istituto Europeo di Diseno di Moda for a year and then spent two years at the Velez-Per sewing school in Madrid. She returned to Athens in 2006 and opened her own studio Theia, where she began to freely express herself through her designs.
