Crisis hits Eurovision as well

Approaching is the beginning of the 55th international music competition and unlike other years, the Greek song selection in 2010 will be remembered as much more modest than what we have seen in recent years. The main differences this year are that the new management of state television ERT decided to save the Greek taxpayers millions of Euros on spectacular advertising, production and performance of the television competition.

The final is on Friday, March 12 and one of the seven nominated artists will win the chance to present Greece in Oslo. The Greek selection will take place in a closed studio doors and will be broadcast live on TV ΝΕΤ1 at 10:00PM local time. There will be no trace of the media hype and super-productions, which followed Elena Paparizou, Anna Vissi, Sakis Rouvas, and even Kalomira during past Eurovisions. Notwithstanding the absence of extensive budget, noise was raised around the exclusion of two of the nominees in the contest. Expelled from the race was the Belgian with Greek origin Katerina Avgoustaki and Elevterias Elevterou. The reason for the disqualification was the premature online release of the videos of the songs of both singers.

The songs during the final week in the Greek struggle, which will present Greece on Eurovision are:
