Business awards in times of recession

The union of manufacturers in Northern Greece will award for the first time the most successful companies in the region with the 'Greek Values’ award, giving emphasis to the quality of the local industry, which withstood the pressure of the economic crisis. "What we would like to recall is that Greek production has a high value. Thus, in times of changes, it can be a pillar of economic growth for the coming years and for the growth of the Greek society. We are adamant that we will continue to support, in every way, the reform of governance and the socio-political system until it becomes an effective tool in support of private practice," said the organizers of the ceremony.

In the Export category, the union nominated KLEEMANN HELLAS SA, which specializes in the production of lifts and is based near Kilkis. It produces 12,000 units per year and has about a thousand jobs. In the same category is the packaging company for food products for export PELOPAC Ltd., which uses innovative methods for preserving the freshness of organic products. IONIKI SA – manufacturer of semi-finished bakery products – will be awarded in the same category. In the category Business Woman of the Year is the name of Eleni Prika, which is the owner of the family dairy STAMATIS PRIKAS SA in Northern Greece. It has over one hundred years of history and tradition in the production of cheese and oils popular outside the country. For the greatest achievements in export, the union of producers will award THRAKIS wine cellar, which produces over 9.5 million bottles of ouzo and tsiporo mainly for export.

The companies AEIFOROS SA (production of calcareous cement for plasters and adhesives and of other building materials) and the furniture company DROMEAS, which Bulgarian consumers know very well too will be awarded for the introduction of highly efficient systems for environment protection. The company AGRITEKS SA, which deals with the production of agricultural goods from low-energy greenhouses, will receive a diploma for its efforts for environment protection. The greenhouses are equipped with modern systems to reduce the emission of harmful substances into the atmosphere and have an effective system to reduce water consumption and use collectors for rainwater too.

In the Corporate Responsibility category will be awarded the packaging company HATZOPOULOS SA with headquarters in Thessaloniki and HELLENIC PETROLEUM. HATZOPOULOS SA has a wide range of initiatives that support various philanthropic activities. They support the organization Doctors without Borders, the union of parents with children who suffer from autism Ahtida, the Museum of Macedonian Struggle and many other organizations that care for the health and culture in the region.

The union of manufacturers in Northern Greece has developed a programme with proposals for improving the financial market liquidity and competitiveness. These proposals can provide immediate solutions to the real economy, political government should listen to the voice of successful producers, says the industrial union. "Production should again become the core of public policy and thus, it will intensify economic development."
