Residential buildings with perfect bioclimatic conditions and environmental construction presents the 6th Biennial of Young Greek Architects in the new building of the Benaki Museum in Athens. The Biennial is held from 16.09 to 17.10 at the initiative of the Hellenic Institute of Architecture and the aim of the event is to present the modern architectural ideas of Greece.

The exhibition represents young Greek architects not older than 45 years of age that successfully refresh the reality of architecture in the country with their projects. A total of 74 projects are presented that cover the last five years. The selection was made by the architects Nikos Kalogirou, Lois Papadopoulos, Dimitris Papalexopoulos and Elias Konstantopoulos. It is worth noting that 368 projects have applied for the 6th Biennial, which itself is a record in the history of the event. This is kind of evidence of the growing interest to the modern, environmentally friendly construction.

The projects are presented through images, drawings, audio or visual materials or in the form of models. Impressive are the original ideas that Greek architects offer to modern construction. One of their most valuable qualities is the synergy between the solutions and the environment.

The project of a bioclimatic house with ... greenery on the roof is among the most interesting solutions. Its architect is Sokratis Yanudis, professor of architecture at the University of Crete. The "green roof" contributes to the good bioclimatic conditions in the premises and the double walls of concrete the architect has provided will stop the strong winds.

The Biennial presents not only residential buildings but also interesting solutions for commercial, educational and cultural complexes. The project of the architects Pieros and Stella Pieris, brother and sister, enjoys a great interest. They present a hotel complex on the Halkidiki peninsula of low wooden houses which are fully in line with the environment. The complex has 300 beds on an area of 150 acres and the new geothermal solutions used in the construction provide the premises with heat in winter and coolness in summer. The energy needed to power the complex is 75% less than that in standard buildings. The authors of the project argue that their aim is to give a new definition of modern and ecological construction and offer new solutions for vacation at the same time.

The aim of the 6th Biennial is to attract not only professional architects but general public too to introduce them to the current issues of the quality of construction.
