For another year in a row Greek tourism reports record high levels, despite the political instability and uncertainty in Greece in recent months. The latest information from the statistical office at the Association of Greek Tourism Enterprises shows that more than 21 million tourists visited Greece in the first eight months of the year and this number does not include cruise trips.

Based on data from SETE Intelligence, the number of tourists who arrived in Greece by air exceeded 11.7 million, registering a growth of 6% in all destinations. The record growth of Athens continues, namely 23% in August and 26% in the first eight months of the year. The Cycladic Islands report good results as well, namely a 14% increase in the number of tourists.

The report presents the increase in tourists arriving by plane according to their country of origin. The general conclusion that can be drawn is that Greece was one of the most popular destinations for Europeans and for tourists from around the world. In particular, it states that Britain with its 2.13 million tourists, Germany with 1.65 million tourists and Italy with 911,000 tourists, were the countries from which the highest number of tourists arrived in Greece by air. Moreover, the US reported a growth of 36.9%, France 20.6% and Italy 16.4%, thus becoming the first three countries with the highest percentage of growth in trips of tourists to Greece by air.

As for tourists who arrived by boat or bus and car, the data of the Association of Greek Tourism Enterprises show that 8.7 million tourists arrived in Greece during the first eight months of 2015, using the road network of the country, which is a 10% increase compared to 2014. At the same time, transport by sea from Italy decreased, amounting to 9.2% in the period from January to July or 680,776 tourists less.

Greece’s Global Review Index (GRI) of services provided to customers in hotels rose to 84.3% in August, being higher than that of major competitive destinations. Epirus region ranks first in terms of satisfaction of services provided with more than 90%, followed by the Cycladic Islands with 87.4%. It is noteworthy that Athens has a higher satisfaction index of services provided compared to other popular European destinations such as Rome, Istanbul and Barcelona.
