Another thing you need is the ability to work on documents in groups. Several options exist: Google Docs, which besides everything else, offers levels of sharing and chat, Zoho, if you are an MS Office user and the job requires using it, you may find the new Microsoft Office 365 service, or which, however, you would have to pay.  Google Cloud Connect is a free alternative but you will need to install a small application in order to synchronize you’re the documents you are working on with your colleagues.

In previous articles I have shown you how to synchronize notes and documents, using Dropbox. You can use this service through a common account for documents sharing or synchronizing notes with clients.

Google Calendar, on the other hand, proves very useful for organizing teamwork on a project. If you need a more detailed system, Zoho gives you a full-functioning software or project work.

I left the e-mail for last, since things are pretty standard here. I will only mention that any mail client or browser will do, as personally I would recommend a combination between Thunderbird and Gmail.

Working from home is beneficial both for the companies, who save up on office space and equipment, and for the employees. Even if office work cannot be avoided, couple of days in the week, say Monday and Friday, could be spent working from home. An adequate combination would be advantageous fro both sides. If distant work is adopted entirely, then a good organization should be at place, including plenty of conference calls, and even meetings with colleagues. Working from home offers a new way of accounting for the job done, and the respective compensation, thus making things easier for the employee and the employer.

They say, working from home is the future. Welcome to the future!
