Finance Minister Yiannis Stournaras issued an order the cases of tax liabilities, which are outstanding for years, to be settled by express procedures involving an agreement between debtors and tax authorities. This happened during a joint meeting with the leadership of the Financial and Economic Crime Unit for a better coordination of inspections. The meeting was also attended by Deputy Finance Minister Giorgos Mavraganis, the Ministry's Chief Secretary, George Mergos, Special Secretary of the Financial and Economic Crime Unit Ioannis Diotis and Secretary of the Informational Systems Harris Teoharis.

At the meeting, it was also decided to accelerate the legislative initiative for the collection of fines by inspecting authorities on the spot, in order the case not to be referred and to stay in the drawers for a long time. Under the existing legislation, the file of the violations is forwarded to tax authorities, so that they to collect the fines.

The special action plan accepted at the meeting foresees:

- Reorganization and strengthening of the Commission of agreements for the immediate closure of the thousands of cases which are stalled and deprive the state of revenues.

- A legislative act in order the defined fines to be collected by control authorities.

- Inventory and tracking of all inspection reports in order to the payment of fines to be detected.

- Establishing a direct connection between all the ministry's systems (TAXIS, ELENXIS and ISIS).

- Carrying out of immediate inspections of recipients of fake and virtual invoices.
