Music, rhythms, dances, performances and various cultural events will be held this summer in every part of Greece, in an attempt to maintain high standards despite the low budgets that are due to the crisis.

There might not be enough money, but there is humour, inspiration, talent and a great need for cultural entertainment.

Thus, despite the inevitable consequences of the economic crisis, this summer too Greece will be filled with sounds, dance and theatre performances.

Cultural events are certainly fewer than in previous years, but organizers have done their best to make no compromise at least in terms of quality.

Popular singers and bands from the Greek music scene, great theatre productions as well as established names from the foreign music scene, will be guests at the festivals organized throughout the country.

Festival of Nauplion:

This year the festival is organized for the 21st time and includes performances by renowned musicians and singers from Greece, Brazil, Denmark, Austria, at various concerts of classical and contemporary music. Of particular interest is the first presentation outside Athens of the opera "La Boheme" by Puccini performed by the National Opera (1^st of July).

Festival of Patras:

Fewer than in previous years, but at the same high level are this year’s cultural events during the Festival of Patras. Theatre and music are the two main directions in the programme. On the 30^th of June, viewers can enjoy the play "Oedipus Rex" by Konstantinos Markoulakis and Emilios Hilakis.

Festival "Forest sounds":

The music, combined with the magic of nature are the main ingredients of this camp festival, which will be held from the 20^th to 22^nd of July at the plateau Agia Triada in Kaloskopi, Fokida prefecture.

During these three days the public will be able to enjoy concerts by famous Greek artists such as Thannasis Papakonstantinou and the band «Imam Baildi» (20^th of July), Yiannis Angelakas and Yiannis Xaroulis (21^st of July) and Leonidas Balafas (22^nd of July).

Festival of the Arts in Kerkyra (Corfu Island):

Recitals, concerts, lectures and discussions featuring prominent artists from around the world are part of this year’s programme of the second Festival of the Arts in Kerkyra, which will be held from the 14^th to 22^nd of July, under the direction of the famous clarinettist Dionysis Gramenos, who is the Artistic Director of the festival.

Among the cultural events included in the festival's programme are a recital by the famous pianist Anna Fedorova (14^th of July), the discussion on "The Fourth Wall: The phenomenon and the dynamics of the theatre of the crisis" (19^th of July), etc.

«Samos Young Artists Festival»:

Talented musicians from Greece, Germany, Iceland, Great Britain, Turkey and Israel will participate in this festival, which will be held from the 6^th to 12^th of August in the town Pithagorio on the island of Samos.

400 artists from around the world will participate in the Festival of the Aegean

The International Festival of the Aegean Sea will last from the 9^th to 22^nd of July, and it will be held this year on the island of Syros.

This year’s Festival will see the participation of more than 400 artists from around the world. Among them are 19 people from the U.S., Canada, France and Greece, maestros, musicians, dancers and artists from the U.S. and Britain, the Piano Trio «New Zealand Chamber Soloists» and other famous foreign soloists.

Furthermore, from the 2^nd to the 6^th of July Syros will host the 19th Festival of the guitar - Ermoupoli, which will include concerts, seminars, and interesting competitions for guitarists.

Events will be held at the theatre "Apollo", the art gallery on the Cycladic island and the park "Metamorfosi".

Ancient Olympia

In the coming days it is expected that details will be announced also of the programme of the Festival in Ancient Olympia, which has ensured the participation of famous singers and musicians such as Michalis Hatzigiannis, Alkistis Protopsalti, Evanthia Reboutsika and others.

Kassandra Festival:

In Siviri, on the Kassandra finger, Halkidiki, will be performed "Oedipus Rex" by Konstantinos Markoulakis, "Knights" with Petros Filipidis, "The Birds" by Aristophanes with Vassilis Haralambopoulos, "Don Giovanni" with George Kimoulis and there will also be concerts by: Alkistis Protopsalti - Evanthia Reboutsika (28^th of July) Filippos Pliatsikas - Eleonora Zouganeli (7^th of August), Dimitra Galani - Haris Alexiou (11^th of August) Eleftheria Arvanitaki - Babis Stokas (15^th of August) Lavrentis Maheritsas - Sakis Boulas - Dimitris Starovas - Yiannis Koutras (18^th of August).

Festival  of Filipon - Thassos:

The 55th edition of the Festival, which begins on the 7^th of July, is devoted to poetry. The National Theatre will participate with "Clouds" by Aristophanes, the State Theatre of Northern Greece with "Knights", the troupe "5^th season" with "Iphigenia in Avlida" etc.

The oldest Festival outside Athens is held annually on the banks of the River Aliakmonas. The programme includes extreme sports and music evenings with: Eleftheria Arvanitaki - Babis Stokas - Thanos Mikroutsikos (1^st of August), Locomondo - Konstantinos Vita - Kostis Maraveyas (2^nd of August) Sokratis Malamas - Alkinoos Ioannidis - Natassa Bofiliou (3^rd of August), Haris Alexiou - Dimitra Galani - Filippos Pliatsikas - Eleonora Zouganeli - Nikos Portokaloglou (4^th of August), Goin Through (5^th of August).

 "Olympus" Festival:

This year, at the 41st edition of the Festival the country of honour is Russia. The official opening will be on the 7^th of July with the exhibition of the famous collection "Kostakis" entitled "The Russian avant-garde in the Shadow of Olympus" and a musical evening with Russian songs.

The monastery "Lazariston":

The festival began in June and continues with Locomondo (2^nd of July) Eleftheria Arvanitaki, Babis Stokas (3^rd of July), Dimitris Zervoudakis (4^th of July).

Holidays on Earth:

In the Vlasti Municipality, Kozani community, in a wonderful area on Siniastiko mountain, this year Holidays on Earth will be held again, which is dedicated to ecology, with musical evenings, and many markets for traditional and organic products.
