Another aspect is the development of the near city railway connections in Athens – to Lavrio, Rafina, Loutraki, Argos and Nafplio and the future expansion towards the suburbs of Thessaloniki.

Meanwhile the modernization of the railway in Macedonia and Thrace will continue, in order to build the bridge for the realization of railway connections in Bulgaria, Turkey, East Europe and Russia. Respectively, in congruence with the regulations of the approved National spatial program, it is providing a new high speed railway connection between Thessaloniki-Kavala-Xanti, which will ensure a significant improvement of the connections of Thessaloniki with Eastern Macedonia and Thrace.
