After the mass protest on Tuesday on the occasion of Angela Merkel’s visit to Athens, Greek trade unions have announced that they will organize a nationwide strike against the new economic policy on 18 October next week. The date coincides with the summit of European Union leaders at which they have to consider the Greek issue. They are determined to do everything possible not to accept the changes set out in the bailout agreement and urge the Greeks not to support them. Meanwhile, the Athens Stock Exchange fell by 3.64% a day after the visit of the German Chancellor as its main index reached 799 basis points and its turnover did not exceed 54 million euro. The most affected sectors were those of trade (-10.4%), health care (-6.73%) and banks (6.15%).
