Zafiris Volikakis took eighth place in keirin in World Cycling Cup, which was held in Beijing. The won position gives Volikakis the opportunity to participate in the World Cycling Championship in Copenhagen (March 24-28), where together with the other members of the national team he will fight for good results. The eighth place is a success for the Greek cyclist - before heading to Beijing, he had set the goal to rank among seventh and twelfth position.

Volikakis was the sole representative of the Greek national cycling team in Beijing and he left for China together with the coach of the federation Yiannis Karipidis.  Zafiris Volikakis and its older brother and world champion – Christos Volikakis, specialize in the rapid cycling. Christos Volikakis is the first Greek who won a gold medal at the World track cycling Cup and also wrote one of the most important pages in the history of Greek cycling. Christos has over 200 wins and has been a champion of the country more than 18 times. In 2005, he became world champion in keirin for juniors and ranked fifth in cycling chase World Cup. In 2006 and 2007 he took, respectively the third and fourth place in the same categories. In 2009 the two brothers, together with Sotiris Bretas qualified 13 on the  World Cup pursuit in track cycling in Poland.
