From time to time I guess everybody come across interpretations related to the Chinese zodiac. Each year is dedicated to an animal of the zodiac and thus different judgments about the quality and character of the year are being made. The same is done for the people according to the year of their birth. I have come across the following comparison between the two analysis systems - Western zodiac talks about human nature according to the month of birth, and the Chinese one according to the year of birth.
For each person it is clear that neither one nor the other can be sufficiently adequate to describe someone's character, much less be associated with his life. Within a zodiac month thousands of people are born and within a year it's even hard for me to guess how many people could be born. In this article I will tell you how things are according to my personal observations after working in the field of astrology for over 10 years.
The most common story about the Chinese zodiac is related to Buddha who invited all animals to compete for a place in the zodiac. The condition was to cross a river. The first to cross the river was the rat, because he relied mostly on his mind and jumped on the back of the bull who was the strongest in swimming. But the rat waited for the right moment and jumped first. So the bull remained in second place. Third arrived the tiger, because he was the second strongest animal after the bull. Fourth came the rabbit, who was helped by the dragon. The dragon himself remained fifth in the race. The snake relied on its cunning and hung around the horse's hoof in order to cross the river. When they reached the end, it frightened the horse and so it jumped his turn and became sixth, and the horse remained seventh. The sheep, the monkey and the rooster helped each other and thus embarked respectively in eighth, ninth and tenth place. The dog did not resist the desire to play in the water and did not care what position it would take. So it arrived at eleven. The pig had a break in the middle to have something to eat and to sleep a bit, so it came last - in twelfth place.
Legends are always very fascinating. But what actually is the real astronomical picture of the Chinese zodiac? In its base stands the cycle of Jupiter around the Sun. If in the western astrology we can talk partly about the sun’s zodiac because it is based on "visible" path of the Sun around the Earth, then the Chinese zodiac is actually Jupiter’s. For 12 years the planet Jupiter makes one of its complete cycles of rotation around the sun.
Another major milestone in the Chinese zodiac are the five elements - wood, fire, earth (clay), metal and water. These are elements that exist naturally in the environment and therefore they are given primary importance. Of course, there are other details about the Chinese zodiac, but they can not be covered in several lines due to the extreme depth of the Chinese philosophy and their understanding of the world and nature. But eventually from the combination of the 12 animals with 5 elements has been formed a cycle of 60 years in which each year is given an animal with one of the 5 elements.
What does that mean anyway? It is like extracting all the planets from the horoscope built in a classical way and leaving only two - Jupiter and Saturn. Of course, this already can not at all be called an individual horoscope. Both planets Jupiter and Saturn in the western astrology determine the year of birth of a person. And the rhythm of their movement is exactly 60 years. Between the match of these two planets (when they are in the same star sign) there are approximately 20 years. For example, their match in 1940 was in the sign Taurus. In exactly 60 years in the year 2000 it happened again in the sign Taurus. Ie within one human live, the two planets "return" three times to the same phase (aspect, angular distance), which they had at the time of birth. The third return is the most important one. Because then both planets will be in the same places, they were at the time of birth.
Therefore, the age of 59-60 years has a special meaning in human life. This is a time when a complete renewing and updating happens of the overall feel of the man about society. In this age people either start to actively participate in public life by turning away from the private one or they completely withdraw from social activity. It is no coincidence that exactly around this age, people often retire and a change of generations occurs. As you can see the man is an integral part of the whole rhythm of nature. And his own pace surprisingly "accidentally" coincides with the natural one. A recent example is the 60-year Chinese zodiac cycle as well as the rhythm between the planets Jupiter and Saturn, which is again 60 years.
For people who have the so-called public destiny and bear social responsibilities, the two planets, Jupiter and Saturn are much more important. For the others this remain somehow distant. So when an astrologer analyzes someone’s horoscope if he wants to understand to what extent the person will live strongly committed to public social problems, he focuses on those two planets.
Why am I writing all of this? Because the Chinese zodiac in the form, in which is spread widely, can be correlated only to the social and public activity of a person, to what type of social engagement is expected of him. Of course, this is very important because no one lives in a vacuum. But this is not and can not be called individual characteristics. This can be associated only with the fundamental attitude of a person to his place in society and social life.
