The most preferred Greek islands or resorts are all places washed by the waters of the Aegean and Ionian seas. These are the results of the poll in the three language versions of GRReporter. This was the vote of 49 per cent of English readers, 33 per cent of Greek readers and 26 per cent of readers of the Bulgarian version.

However, there are differences in major destinations. The most popular among Bulgarian readers are Thassos, which received 23 per cent of the votes, Santorini - 12 per cent and Halkidiki peninsula - with 11 per cent of the votes. The green islands of Skiathos and Skopelos, where the well-known musical "Mamma Mia" was shot a few years ago and Tinos, which is known for the Assumption Monastery, are among the most unpopular destinations, having received only 1 per cent of the votes. The cosmopolitan Island of Spetses in Argosaronikos Gulf, which every year attracts dozens of members of the royal families of Europe, did not receive any votes.

The readers of the Greek version of GRReporter ranked first Crete, which received the support of 12 per cent of voters. Next is Corfu with 10 per cent, and Santorini and Rhodes share the third place. Surprisingly, Tinos did not receive any votes although it has the highest number of visitors around the Assumption on 15 August, if only for the day of celebration.

The largest Greek island – Crete is at the top of the list of the English language version of the site with 10 per cent of the votes. Second are Thassos and the Peloponnese with 7 per cent and four destinations share the third place: Mykonos, Santorini, Rhodes and Tinos with 5 per cent of the votes. The islands of Skopelos, Paros and Spetses did not receive any votes.

Some of the most popular resorts, however, are leaders in the ranking of the highest number of tax violations. According to the service fighting economic crimes, during the inspection, which took place in just three days from 24 to 27 August, Mykonos was proclaimed an undisputable leader with 1,078 violations.

Second are the islands of Paros and its opposite Andiparos, where the authorities registered 331 violations. Santorini is in third place with 189 violations registered in the island's capital alone - Thira.

The number of violations on Corfu is 92, one less for Halkidiki, and 86 on Skiathos, Skopelos and Alonissos. There are no data for the whole of Crete, but the inspections of the economic police registered 33 violations in three major settlements that are also resorts - Agios Nikolaos, Ierapetra and Sitia. The majority of cases are related to restaurants and other establishments that did not issue receipts for goods sold or services rendered. Indicative of the scale of the phenomenon was the tragicomic case with the capture of a restaurant keeper on the island of Hydra, who played a show in order to avoid being arrested.

Thank you for your participation and we await your votes in our new poll: Which social group has the greatest right to protest against the new economic measures?
