Three people were arrested under the charges for the murder of Andy Hadjikostis in Cyprus. Police considers that they committed the crime carrying out a “contract” meaning that there is also a moral author of the assassination, who is somebody else.

According to “Tea Nea” newspaper the evidence against them were collected after the hearing of the telephone conversations made by 17 phone numbers belonging to five people. The ban on taping the lines by the police is suppressed by a court order for this particular case in order for the police to be able to get to the suspects. Among the telephone conversations which were taped were the ones of the victim himself.

The three suspects are considered to have committed the crime. Two of them were riding the motorcycle which was seen and recorded by the security cameras at the crime scene, while one of them shot at Andy Hadjikostas. The third suspect is most probably the “brain” of the operation who was observing the victims’ moves and warned the other two.

At the interrogation the three suspects claimed that they have alibi. Police hopes that after listening to their conversations their alibi will drop. Aside from this police is convinced that behind the three criminals are hiding the moral authors of the crime, meaning that the three men held in the police were carrying out a contract.

The media magnate Andy Hadjikostas was murdered on Monday evening in front of his home. Currently the main theory of the Cyprus Police Department is that the motives of the assassination were financial controversies. The authorities do not exclude the possibility that the crime was committed because of political motives, even though Andy Hadjikostas was responsible for the management of the media holding and not for its political orientation.
