Strike: Greece will be blocked on Thursday and until that time mountains of garbage will flood the country

A 24 hours strike against the measures of the government announced the employees from the public and private sector in Greece who will gather at a protesting procession which will start from Pedio Aris and head for the Parliament at 11 o’clock in the morning.

Dozens of federations of the working people confirmed they will participate in the strike. Among them are the employees in the public institutions, the dispatchers at the air ports, the teachers, the doctors in the public hospitals, the customs agents, the tax inspectors, bank employees, the people working in private organizations etc. In the strike will also take part the people working in the factories, the construction workers, ship crews, dockers and journalists. They are opposing against the measures of the government and are stating that they are ready to “protect their achievements which are about to be stepped on under the orders of Brussels”.

Without staff will remain the hospitals, polyclinics and the first aid and at the day of the strike the doctors will only attend the emergency patients. The teachers and lecturers will also not be at work on Friday and tomorrow their union will be in session because at their previous meeting the union did not approve the suggestion to strike constantly five days a week until their requests are met. At the session tomorrow the Teachers’ confederation will decide on what actions to undertake in the future.

Until Thursday, the entire country will live in a terrible situation as it has already started to drawn in garbage because of the decision of the employees of the municipality to lock the dumping grounds. At the same time the Union of the municipalities in the Attica region is ringing the alarm for the public health because of the ban imposed to the dumping trucks, even those coming from the hospitals to pass through the dumping grounds.

On March 18th will also be closed the gas stations, after a decision was taken by the confederation.

Tomorrow becomes one week since the employees of the former air carrier Olympic who were discharged took over the Government accounting service on Panepistimiou blvd. with the request for their full compensations to be paid. From time to time they also block the traffic of cars on the boulevard and the cars have to pass through the small neighborhood streets Sina and Solonos on their way to Omonia.

Since midday on Monday the Ministry of employment has been occupied by about a hundred employees who work under the program “Internship” on a low paid job and whose contracts have not been renewed. This morning they will try to meet the political management of the Ministry. Since yesterday also continues the 48 hours strike of the tax inspectors who are opposing the government plans to cut the salaries.
