The game between the football teams of Panathinaikos and PAS Giannina for the cup of Greece ended with a final score of 3:1. The game was played at the OAKA stadium in Athens. The victory qualified the greens directly for the semifinals and the game which the two teams will play next Wednesday will be just a formality.

The game started with an attack by the greens. The first attempts to score were made by Cisse and Ninis during the 2nd and the 6th minute. Task number one which Nioplias had given to the players was to score a goal as soon as possible as a guarantee that the greens will avoid the replay of the situation from the game against Olympiakos when they missed many chances and were late with scoring and it all lead to their fatal loss. A loss which shadow seemed to be hanging over the field this evening as well. The hosts were defiantly still in a minor state of mind, influenced by their game against the white and red team. They had no reason for joy after their first goal as it was scored by a player from the guests’ team. In the 13th minute the player Kotsios tried to lead the ball away from the goal post of Giannina after a kick of Salpingidis. Unfortunately by a mere chance the ball got right into the goal post… In spite of its bad luck the team of PAS Giannina did not give up. It kept on playing the ball very well and to strive for positions to score. Something which could not be said about the host team (at least for the beginning of the game). The greens were playing as if they had tripped over and without a particular desire to fight. A second goal for Panathinaikos was scored by Sotiris Ninis in the 45th minute of the first half. It seemed however that even this did not make the greens happy. They did not express their joy in the usual way and it seemed as if their faces had lost their smiles which we are used to seeing.

The second half started in the same rhythm of game on the part of the greens – without too much dynamic and passion, a game of average quality. They were creating good situations to score, however they couldn’t manage to utilize them. A good attempt made Gilberto Silva, however the ball went far above the goal post. A very good situation also lost Cisse who after a wonderful pass by Leto sent the ball aiming at the goal post, however didn’t manage to score. The game was definitely not one of the best ones for the French who only few minutes later made another unsuccessful attempt to score. After the lost chance in front of the goal post of the guests a chaos and confusion set on the field. Another attack of the greens followed – this time from a direct free kick, executed by Leto and Cleyton tried to score, however the attempt was unsuccessful. In the 40th minute came another unsuccessful attempt by Cisse. Attempts to score also made Leto, however they also did not result in a change of the score. Finally the luck came upon Cisse and in the 42nd minute he managed to score after he previously hit the bar of the goal post. A surprise for the greens came from the player Kousas who scored a goal in the last minutes of the game after a head shot.
