Only ¼ of the hotels in Athens were full during the Christmas and New Year holidays

What do you think should be done to stop the present decline in the influx of tourists?

I think Athens has been an attractive destination for many years. In recent years the inflow of tourists is not as big as it was before, with the only exception being the period 2004 - 2005 when the Olympics were held.

In my view, the actions of many organizations and departments must coordinate as many of them from public sector as from the private one for Athens to be able again to start attracting tourists. Events should start to be held so as to raise the interest of visitors.

Minister of Culture and Tourism Pavlos Geroulanos promised that from the beginning of 2011 each week in Athens will be carried out various activities. So far we have not seen, however, a specific plan.

I think, however, that we all must contribute. To try, as far as it depends on us to keep in good repair the sidewalk outside our offices and restaurants and to hold small events, which however, will bring some color into the city and regain at least some of the old image of Athens.
