Huge storage of an impressive quantity of illegal goods, imitation of famous trademarks, was revealed in downtown Athens. The storage was found in an old two-storey building on 16, Kolonu Str. The amount of the available goods shows that illegal trade of shockingly large scale was being developed for a long time. We are speaking of the largest black trading storage found in the capital so far.

The police found thousands of watches, handbags, sunglasses, purses and clothing in the building that has an area of about 150 square meters. Not only the large quantity of goods was impressive but the equipment of the storage itself was amazing too. Indoor and outdoor cameras secured the place and there were special installations. The indoor space was arranged remarkably well too. The goods were well packed and arranged in cabinets and shelving ... just like in a store. "No change" sign met us at the seller’s stand and a board with the opening hours was even hanging on the window...

This, however, is not the end of the police findings. The biggest surprise they found underground. Secret corridors and tunnels were leading to huge underground warehouses of a total area of 2000 square meters There were also found large quantities of illegal goods.

The investigation involved the police and the municipality of Athens, in the person of Andreas Papadakis, Deputy Mayor responsible for the commercial sites and the security of the city. "We located one of the largest black trading storages in the center of Athens. We were very surprised when we opened the door of the two-storey building. For the first time in the 4 years of my deputy mayoralty I see something like that, so much illegal goods intended for sale throughout the streets of Athens. We found watches, sunglasses, bags, purses and clothing. All this in a huge quantity"- said Mr. Papadakis. "I believe that if we continue our efforts, we will achieve very positive results not only for the city but for the economy, because we are speaking of unpaid taxes of millions of euros... The black market should be neutralized from the ground up"- he said.

Investigations of the place will last at least 3 days. Then the building will be sealed and the illegal goods will be neutralized in compliance with the law.
