Olympic Games in London in 2012 will put the end to the active career of the swimmer Spiros Gianniotis

The swimmer Spiros Gianniotis started intense preparation for the Olympic Games in London. Gianniotis, who makes proud not only the friends of Olympiakos, but also all the friends of the sport in Greece has set as a main goal to take one of the first positions in the upcoming Olympic Games in 2012. Until then he intends to “warm up” by taking part in all the major sport events. This year the athlete will start in the World championship of swimming marathon in Roberval – Canada, which will be held from July 15th to July 23rd. He will also take part in the European championship in Budapest on August 4th to August 15th. His training for the championships, Gianniotis will start from Latin America. There he will take part in two other competitions from the world championship in swimming marathon in 10 kilometers on January 31st in Santos, Brazil and on February 2nd in Viedma, Argentine. According to the words of Gianniotis the Olympic Games in 2012 will put the end to his active career. 2012 is the year when his contract with Olympiakos expires (the swimmer competes wearing the colors of Olympiakos since 1998).

His career the athlete born in Liverpool starts in the sea sports union of Kerkira. For the first time he competes in Olympic Games when he is twenty years old in the year 2000. In 2001 he takes the seventh place in the championship in Fucuoca, in 2003 he wins a bronze medal in 4 x 200m free style at the European championship. During the Olympic Games in Athens in 2004 Gianniotis takes the seventh place and in 2007 he wins a bronze medal at the twelfth World championship of swimming sports in Melbourne. At the world championship of swimming sports in Rome the Greek won a silver medal in 5 km swimming. In the past year the thirty years old athlete was nominated by the Union of sports journalists in Greece a candidate for the best athlete.
