The cases of swine flu in Greece have already reached 20, after the 20-year old Peruvian girl’s tests turned out positive. The girl came in Greece from New York. Her symptoms were light, therefore she was not hospitalized and is under home-treatment. Out of all 20 cases, 8 are completely healed and sent home, and 12 continue their prescribed therapy. Early on Saturday, 5 new cases have been registered with the dangerous virus. One of them is of a 11-month baby, contaminated with the H1N1 virus on the Cycladic island Naxos. This is the first case of internal contamination.

The baby was most likely infected by its 15-yar old cousin, who developed the illness a day after her return from New York. Yesterday afternoon he baby was transported with a helicopter to Athens where it is being currently treated. The rest of the cases registered yesterday are of a 30-year old woman, Greek, and 3 Americans of ages 51, 16 and 18, arrived in Greece from the USA. The day before, in Friday, the Minister of health Dimitris Avramopoulos announced 6 more cases, among which the one of a 8-month old baby, also arrived from New York.

In most cases, the form of the disease is moderate and the patients are discharged for home-treatment. The National Pandemic Commission will hold a meeting in order to discuss Greece’s ability to handle the situation. Minister Avramopoulos noted a couple of times that in respect to medicines, hospital rooms and medical personnel, the country is prepared to deal with any future cases of the disease. All the correspondent departments are on stand-by for September, when a sharp increase of the number of the infected with the A flu virus is expected.
