There is no demonstration in Athens or in Thessaloniki that passes with any commotion. This was the case and this year during the celebration of November 17th – the anniversary of the events in the Polytechnic University. It is a tradition for the event to be celebrated with a procession, which goes around the whole centre of the Greek capital and finishes in front of the American embassy. There, an anarchist group destroyed a bus stop and threw “Molotov” cocktails, stones, and whatever they could find at the police. From their side, the police used tear-gas and muffled bombs, and so the usual picture was formed, which goes hand in hand with every November 17th demonstration.
Police said they arrested 11 people. Commotion wasn’t missing even in Thessaloniki, where two people were injured. Another two were hurt in Crete and Hiraklio. The Athens procession was guarded by 8000 policemen and the Thessaloniki police was fully alert, due to the presence of the German anarchists in the city, who demonstrated in defense of the prisoners. The prosecutor’s office in Thessaloniki allowed the police to enter university buildings in case they see any commotion there.
