"Golf in Greece" is the title of a recently published book - a journey into the world of golf and its traditions in Greece. Authors of the book are Barbara J. Euser and Connie Burke, both golf and Greece lovers. 172 pages tell the readers about the golf tradition in Greece, about the situation of the sport at the moment and about the opportunities the country offers to golfers.

Connie Burke is an English Literature teacher, who withdrew from the academic world and decided to travel the world and meet some amazing people. In her books she describes about her impressions of the mythical and infinitely interesting places she had visited. She is a founding member of Writer's Workshops International, LLC and for a period of ten years he has been in charge of the Women's Golf Club of Greece. She has organized more than 100 amateur golf competitions and three PGA competitions for the European Seniors Tour. It is precisely her love for the sport that prompted her to write a book about golf in Greece and make the country a known golf destination on the world map.

Barbara J. Euser is a former senior officer of the Emigrant political department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in America. She has worked in programs in Bosnia, Somalia, Zimbabwe, India and Nepal. She is author and coauthor of ten books, and also one of the founding members of Writer's Workshops International, LLC. Euser is certainly a big golf lover. The pictures by both authors, which appear in the book, can be distinguished by their live show color, and beauty and uniqueness of the Greek golf courses, but they also emphasize on the diversity of Greek landscapes.

This is a book full of color, pictures and information that aims to inspire golfers to visit Greece, not only because of the golf opportunities it offers, but also for its natural beauty and its cultural treasures. The golf destinations the authors offer are unique - desert paintings, such as pitch, built in Crete, typical mountain landscapes or beach destinations with breathtaking sea views. The book contains historical and cultural information about the different regions in Greece, as well as information on wines and popular local attractions.

Although golf does not particularly enjoy great popularity among the majority of Greek population, this sport has been recognized as an attraction in Greece for many years. It is believed the sport arrived in Greece in 1928, when the first golf course was organized on the under Italian occupation back then island of Rhodes. President of the golf club was the English ambassador Edward Perkins.

The Prime Minister and President Konstantinos Karamanlis himself gave the start of the second wave of golf courses and clubs in Greece. The Golf Club opened in Athens in 1930 and was attended by personalities such as King George II, Greeks studying abroad, and foreign and Greek diplomats.

In their book, Connie Burke and Barbara J. Euser give a detailed description of the six golf clubs in Greece, which local and foreign golfers can visit. These are the club on Crete Island (located 24 km. East of the international airport Nikos Kazantzakis), the club Afandu in the Afandu Gulf in Rhodes, the club of Corfu island (also known as one of the most beautiful golf destinations because of its green hills), the golf club in Glyfada, which exists since 1966 (in 1979 it held World Cup Tournament, Mediterranean Gamers in 1999 and during the last three years the PGA Senior Greek Open), the golf club in Porto Elunda, which among other things, offers wonderful views of the Mirabel bay and the club in Porto Carras.
