The men’s water polo team of Olympiakos is one step away from the title. The white-reds led 7-6 in the match with the Panionios team that was played in Nea Smyrna pool. With the  outcome of tonight they have gained the lead in the finals of the A1 men championship with 2-0.

The match was full of action from the beginning. Both teams were attacking and holding the lead one after the other. The abilities of guests and hosts seemed equal and the first eight minutes finished with a score of 3-3. The equal results turned the game into a derby match from the outset.

The next minutes began with very strong attacks from the hosts. Thanks to the player Murikis the result was 4-3. So Thus Panionios half ended with 5-4 and hopes for final victory.

After the break came and the next change in the pool. This time the guests were those who pulled themselves together. They continued the game with massive attacks led by Milonakis. They did not late to catch the result. Doskas also helped the team lead. The guests took the lead with 6-5.  It became very hot in the pool again. As could be expected the next equal result did not late. This time Miralis scored it. With his third goal Doskas made the score 7-6. That is how the minutes finished.

Despite the serious support of its fans Panionios could not win the game. The last minutes proved crucial to the result as the hosts made many mistakes. Both teams had chances to score a goal, but not all were used. The end result was a dramatic flair Olympiakos to win the match and thus get closer to the title.

Whether white-reds will be the winners of the match will depend on the game the teams will play in the pool in Piraeus on Friday. One thing is clear, Olympiakos is now only one step away from the title... And Panionios itself is swearing to do the utmost.
