Street protests, loud anti-austerity slogans and public discontent - scenes reminiscent of the Athens daily round immediately after the adoption of the first Memorandum of financial assistance.

Visitors to Tenerife will surely be confused these days because the Spanish city has become the setting for the fifth episode of the spy series "Bourne". For this reason, all advertisements and street signs in the city have been replaced with advertisements and signs in Greek and the scenes from the new adventures of Jason Bourne are recreating Greek reality during 2011-2012.

Santa Cruz de Tenerife started to resemble Athens on 9 September with the shooting of the first scene that is recreating a street protest. It set off from Spain square where the crew is shooting also today and will continue in the regions of Imeldo Seris and El Clavel until 22 September. The action is taking place in the evening and the Canary Islands police have stopped the traffic on surrounding streets for that purpose and isolated the pedestrians at a great distance from the set to secure their safety.

The frames are showing the familiar slogans from the Greek protests, "We have bled enough, we have paid enough, we have suffered enough," "Down with the dictatorship of EU monopolies."

The Greek national flag with the inscription ΟΧΙ is a direct reference to the referendum that took place on 5 July this year, in which the majority of Greeks answered "no" to the possibility of reaching an agreement with creditors.

The atmosphere is totally realistic, with Greek police patrol cars and buses, and the inevitable tear gas.

The film shooting on the Spanish island will continue at least until the end of the month and in the northern airport in Tenerife on 26 September.

Meanwhile, the US Embassy in Athens has published part of the interview with Matt Damon, in which he reveals that part of the film shooting will take place in Greece. "We’re starting in Greece, you know, the beginning of democracy," says the actor who is playing the role of Jason Bourne.

The same publication of the diplomatic representation describes the film as an adventure "in austerity-ridden Europe and in a post-Edward Snowden world." It also states that Damon has revealed to fans that the film shooting will be concluded in Las Vegas.

The title of the fifth episode of the series "Bourne" which is directed by Paul Greengrass is not yet known. He is also the scriptwriter of the film, along with Damon and Christopher Rose.

The main cast also includes Vincent Cassel, who is playing the role of "bad guy", Tommy Lee Jones, Alicia Vikander and Julia Stiles.

The film premiere is scheduled for 29 July 2016.
