"The world has survived because it had laughed,” people say. Not that those who do not laugh will not survive, but certainly the ones who are afraid to relax their souls and at least for a moment to indulge in joy, will not know the miraculous power of laughter. Carnival, as a phenomenon, has an old tradition at the bottom of which lies the desire and aspiration of a man to be happy. The world seen through the eyes of the carnival is like an endless holiday. And going to a carnival is like buying a ticket to an amusement park... Spiting all problems and economic crises and true to their tradition this year Greeks did not waive the carnival. As always most successful was the carnival in Patra. Although this year celebrations lasted only for a month, they were able once again to deliver happiness and many emotions to the people. 30 000 people attended the pageant, which was held on Saturday in the streets of the city. Yesterday, after lunch, in the city passed a second great festive procession headed by the King of Carnival, dressed as a clown and Queen of Carnival, driven in a chariot of flowers in the shape of the heart. The Carnival’s Big Band, the "Green Development" group and "No smoking" - representing scenes satirize the smoking ban, participated in the procession. The procession was also joined by Lakis Lazopoulos, who performed his program “Satire in Satire”. Among the participants there were also the groups “Brussels cabbages" and "Fight in the parking lot”. All participants were dressed in colorful costumes are created a really wonderful atmosphere. The Patra Carnival, ended last night at 09:00PM at the breakwater Ag. Nikolaos, with countless lights and fireworks.

In addition to Patras other cities in Greece were in festive mood this year. The carnivals in Naousa and Grevena too place in full swing and strong Dionysius elements. (For ten years in a row the carnival in Grevena is held under the humorous title "Pranksters").

“Carnival of lovers" is called the carnival in Xanthi, in which the participants this year were 17 000. Festive carnival atmosphere took over the people of Skyros and Tirnavo, where the Carnival tradition has been for 100 years.
