Greek women’s basketball with a huge success

The Greek national basketball team reached its highest results and took fifth position at the overall ranking.

Kostas Misas’s team won against Italy with 60-56 at the last game from the European championship in Latvia. With their fifth position the Greeks manage to rank for the first time in the World Basketball Championship, which will take place in 2010 in the Czech Republic. The Greek veteran with the women Evina Malci received the award for most effective player at the tournament.

Pelagia Papamihail scored 15 points and 8 fights and Dimitra Kalencu- 12 points, 5 fights and 7 assists.

The Euro-basket champion with the women in Riga was the national team of France, winning to Russia with 57-53.

The third place was for Spain, second in 2007, beating Belarus at the small final with 63-56.
