In the late afternoon of 12 September, near Livanates, the region of Fthiotida, police arrested a 29-year-old Bulgarian. He had been sought since the summer of 2013 for the murders of two elderly women earlier in the same year. He has been charged of murder and serial robbery.

In the afternoon of 24 February, 2013, a 77-year-old woman was found dead in her home in Tragana, Fthiotida. She was lying in the hallway of her apartment, with her arms and legs tied and her face covered with a cloth. The woman had died of asphyxiation.

A few days later, on 1 March, a 78-year-old woman was found dead in her bedroom, in Molos, Fthiotida. According to police, her hands were tied with a piece of cloth while her mouth was gagged with a rag and some paper. Her death had occurred as a result of severe cranial trauma.

The police established that both houses have been searched. The Tragana house had not been broken into, while the killer had penetrated the Molos apartment through the window of one of the rooms.

Both cases were investigated by officers of the Security Service in Lamia. The investigation, which lasted several months, has proven that the perpetrator is a Bulgarian citizen, who back then was 27. A warrant was issued for his arrest. The motive of both crimes was robbery, but the amounts of cash, jewellery or other items he had stolen are not yet established, as both women lived alone.

The possibility that the killer had an accomplice, or was involved in the commission of other crimes, is currently being investigated.
