The Greek police apprehended a 41-year-old Bulgarian in his attempt to smuggle illegal immigrants into Greece. They found in his car nine people, namely seven citizens of Syria and two of Iraq. The arrest took place yesterday during a routine check on the Orestiada-Alexandroupolis highway when the police from the border unit near the village of Tichero intercepted the car with Bulgarian licence plates.
The authorities confiscated the car and the mobile phone of the detained Bulgarian. The case is being investigated by the border guard department near Tichero. The Bulgarian citizen will face the public prosecutor in Alexandroupolis on charges of trafficking in illegal immigrants.
