Golden Dawn’s candidate for deputy threatens immigrants with gas chambers

While the theoretical dispute between historians and political scientists about whether Golden Dawn is the Greek analogue of Hitler and his entourage is going on, a video shown by the British television Channel 4 shocked the viewers from the Old Albion and made the social media explode. It shows the election campaign of a xenophobes’ candidate for deputy in Athens. Before the camera, Alexandros Plomaritis is threatening the foreigners with beatings and killings of immigrants, showing a clear preference to the Nazi practices used during the Third Reich.

After handing out his election leaflets and bulletins in the market in downtown Athens, where he is abusing the foreigners, he appears in the company of supporters of the party. The men are sitting in a cafe, discussing how they will solve the problem with immigrants by destroying them physically.

"If they have dark skin we will bleach them. And then, we will bleach them with kicks," Plomaritis says, roaring with laughter and wondering how the hair and teeth of immigrants could be used.

"We are ready to open the ovens and make soap from them," is his next remark, to which he is adding, "But they are dirty and if we wash our hands with it we will become pimply. That's why we will use the soap to wash our cars and streets."

Konstantinos Georgousis, a student at the Film Academy, filmed the video. He spent a month with representatives of Golden Dawn to obtain materials for his documentary.

"I was terrified that these members were proud to express their extreme ideas during campaigning openly in public. I was shocked by their hostility and by the way they treated immigrants in the Athenian squares," he says of his experience with the xenophobes.

The comment of Channel 4 states that since Golden Dawn has entered the parliament, it has increased its popularity by pushing the enactment of laws against immigrants and prohibiting their admission to the army and police.

Several hours after the release of the report on the television channel in the United Kingdom, the newly established department for combating racist violence at the Greek police sent the shocking video to the prosecutor in Athens. The notification contains the statements of the candidate for deputy, "We are ready to open the ovens. ...soap", "We will have soaps for cars and sidewalks", "We will make a desk lamp from their skins", "We will take the teeth".

Golden Dawn claims that the video is the product of a fraud and that the photos were taken without the knowledge of the participants. The parliamentary party spokesman Ilias Kasidiaris states, "The video was filmed by some journalists who did not tell them that they were filmed and who asked them if Golden Dawn carried out murders and they were joking."

In an attempt to make it more convincing, he added, "How is that possible? They are talking about teeth that they would use to make rosaries. The same happened with the BBC, which had put a hidden camera in our offices." Kasidiaris said that the party was discussing the possibility of filing a claim against the makers of the video whom it would accuse of slander.
