A quarrel between two Roma families in the region of Ilia in the Peloponnese resulted in the murder of four people. Five others were seriously injured and taken to the district hospital of Amaliada. A woman and three men were shot, following an altercation between the two clans, about which the local press is giving no details.

The incident took place in the ghetto of Gastouni village, behind the olive oil production factory "Elais" (ΕΛΑΪΣ). According to Ethnos, the two Roma families were from different villages, but had kinship.

Members of one of the two families from Lefkohori village went to resolve the dispute personally with their relatives from Gastouni.

The dispute escalated and the first victim in the clash was a 50-year-old man of the family from Lefkohori. He was shot with a shotgun. The victim’s two sons reacted instantly and in revenge killed on the spot the 51-year-old father of the family from Gastouni, his 26-year-old daughter and 36-year-old son. The mother of the family was seriously injured and is still in the intensive care unit in critical condition. Both offenders are about 40 years old and, according to the police, they used a hand gun and a knife in the counterattack. Several more members of both families are slightly injured.

Public officials believe that this will be the beginning of a new vendetta that will not end with this incident.

The first day of August brought more crime news. Besides the massacre between the two Roma families and the unfortunate end of the two Bulgarian children in Ilia, the Coast Guard service of Piraeus has found the bodies of two men (60 and 45) in the waters around Agios Dionisios. Currently, the police are trying to identify the victims. Their bodies were taken to the district hospital of Piraeus for an autopsy.

Representatives of the Office of underwater investigations have been searching the area for a car that may have fallen off the shore of the harbour, but they haven’t found anything so far. The 60-year-old man who was found drowned has grey hair, a beard and he was dressed in a black tracksuit and a blue and white plaid shirt. The 45-year-old drowned man has short hair, and was wearing black trousers and a red Polo shirt.
