Four types of chocolate widely spread on the Greek market contain dangerous allergens, announced the National food inspection agency. After an inspection made by the agency in cooperation with the central laboratory was determined that the products contain the ingredient “casein”, which was not listed on the package. According to the current law if producers do not list on the label specifically and completely the ingredients, the lot of the product has to be pulled out of the market.

The black chocolate with the brand name “FRESH Chocolate” is produced by “FRESH – sugar products” Plc and comes in packages of 75 grams with an expiration term until September 15th, 2010. The other product pulled out of the market is the Belgian chocolate containing sweeteners “Pure chocolate DELHAIZE”, imported in Greece by “Alpha-Vita Asilopoulos” Plc. The chocolate is distributed in packages of 33 grams with an inspiration date March 2010. The third is also black chocolate from the brand name “RIQUET Black” – a 100 grams product distributed by the holding company “Aldy Greece Supermarket”. The last dangerous chocolate is produced by “Domestic chocolate Health” – N. Gavrili Halvas Drapechonas and has the same title. It has been released on the market in a 100 grams package with an inspiration date until September this year.

The lack of complete description of the ingredients of he four types of chocolate is considered to be a deceit of the consumers and a threat to the public health. The agency sets the standards and principles, which have to be followed in the production and execution of health products meeting the established standards. It also executes the control over the implementation of the established standards in the companies from the food industry and the commercial chains.

The quality standards set by the National food inspection agency state that the casein is dangerous for people who have allergies to milk and milk products. Currently there is no information about the quantity released on the market. From the agency recommend that everybody who has allergic reactions from milk avoid the consumption of chocolate and chocolate products.
