"If Alexis Tsipras is willing, he has the opportunity to form a left government with broad parliamentary legitimacy and with the support of the Democratic Left," said Fotis Kouvelis after his meeting with Alexis Tsipras. He is adamant that the decision of the people the majority of whom voted against the austerity measures imposed by the Memorandum of financial assistance should be honoured. However, he insists that Greece should remain within the euro area. "The Democratic Left is thus contributing to the efforts for not holding new elections. This is our responsible position in support of society and the country."

Fotis Kouvelis might be the next prime minister of Greece, according to BriefingNews. According to the information, which has not yet been confirmed, an official source said that his candidacy will be considered at a meeting of political leaders on Saturday and if there are no serious objections, he might take the lead of the next Greek Parliament.
