The last act of the drama in Peristeri will take place at 5:00 pm today when Thanassis Kanaoutis’ family and friends will say their last farewell to him. The man, aged 19, died on Tuesday evening in an attempt to avoid a ticket check.

People from his circle as well as strangers are continuing to place flowers at the scene of the accident on "Panaghi Tsaldari" street and his friends are still posting on the Facebook profile of the young man messages and condolences for his absurd death.

The questions regarding the exact circumstances of the boy's death remain unanswered. Areti Papanaiotou, lawyer of the family, stated in the morning broadcast of Mega TV that only the forensic examination would shed light on the case. However, she stressed that she was not able to say when the results of this examination would be announced.

According to Papanaiotou, one conclusion can already be drawn, namely that there was an exchange of sharp remarks between the young man and the conductor but the examination will prove whether the 19-year-old boy was pushed or not.

At the same time, the lawyer has urged all those present during the tragic accident to testify in order for a more accurate picture of the accident to be drawn up.

Furthermore, the family has a testimony according to which, upon meeting Thanasis, aged 19, the conductor told him, "I remember you. You got away with it last year but you will not make it this time."

According to the family, the boy and the conductor were old acquaintances as they had met a year earlier, again during a ticket check along the same trolley bus line. It seems that the conductor had remembered the incident and their last meeting turned out to be the last page of their acquaintance but also of the life of the 19-year-old student from the district of Peristeri.

Thanasis Kanaoutis, aged 19, with his girlfriend

The family questions, through lawyer Papanaiotou, the version of the public transport company according to which the young man had opened the door and jumped out on his own. Areti Papanaiotou, on the other hand, asks how it is possible for a person to fall on his back on the pavement when jumping from a vehicle, as had happened to the 19-year-old boy.

According to the family, the boy had not opened the door and there had been a scuffle in the trolley bus before that. That is why there were scratches and wounds on Thanasis’ body and his shirt was torn. "We want respect for the memory of the child. We believe that the law will be administered, and that the investigation and the forensic examination will play an important role in the case. Let the matter be resolved in court, where it belongs", said Areti Papanaiotou, lawyer of the family.

Past problems with the conductor

The conductor who had played a key role in the tragic accident is a former driver who had willingly become a conductor. Sources from the Ministry of Transport state that there had been problems with his behaviour in the past but they were not so serious as to punish him.
