Two years after her disaffiliation because of her choice to vote for the first memorandum of economic aid to Greece, Dora Bakogiannis is in intensive talks with Antonis Samaras for her return to New Democracy.

According to major Greek media, intense talks between representatives of both parties are currently taking place at the highest level. The positive developments following Antonis Samaras’ attempt to unite the centre-right forces are very likely to be announced by the end of the day.

Sources claim that Dora Bakogiannis had spoken with the New Democracy leader in person and that they had agreed to jointly participate in the upcoming elections. So far, neither party has confirmed this information.

The leader of the Democratic Alliance responded to Antonis Samaras’ call for forming a front of pro-European and reformist forces. Dora Bakogiannis herself stressed yesterday the need of establishing such a European front.

The staffs of both parties said, "There will be news soon." New Democracy did say, "The party leader is personally engaged with this matter" and refused to talk about the essence of backstage negotiations.

Particularly important is the morning statement of Dora Bakogiannis’ brother and New Democracy deputy Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who told NET radio, "We must do something very quickly, within the next week to accomplish what we have wanted to happen for a long time, i.e. a gradual unification of the centre-right space."

The formation of this pro-European front is the basis of negotiations with both Dora Bakogiannis and the LAOS leader George Karatzaferis. Sources say he will not delay his return to New Democracy either and is pending an appeal by Antonis Samaras, which is very likely to happen in the coming hours.

To be continued
