Prosecutor Eleni Touloupaki has raised serious allegations of violations of the anti-terrorism law against the terrorist organization "Sect of Revolutionaries", having received from the anti-terrorism service the case file relating to the organization.

The "Sect" carried out four attacks in the period from February 2009 to the summer of 2010 when journalist Sokratis Giolias was shot at the entrance of his home in the Athens district of Ilioupouli.

The charges are against an unknown perpetrator, as, despite the lengthy investigation, the authorities have not identified the perpetrators of the terrorist attacks and of the murders of policeman Nektarios Savvas and journalist Sokratis Giolias.

Eleni Touloupaki has united the four case files of the attacks that were carried out by the organization and for which it assumed responsibility, bringing accusations of organizing a criminal group, murder, explosions, possession, manufacture and use of firearms, grenades and explosive devices in order to commit crimes that may be detrimental to the state, frighten the population, violate basic constitutional political and economic structures. The charges include manufacturing, supply and possession of weapons and explosives to achieve the objectives of the terrorist organization, as well as large scale theft.

History of the group

"Sect of Revolutionaries" appeared on 3 February 2009, attacking the police station in Korydallos. Then three armed men shot at the station with two machine guns, one 9 mm pistol and a scorpion-type machine gun. Subsequently, these weapons became the "trademark" of the terrorist group. The "Sect" assumed responsibility for the attack with a proclamation left on the grave of Alexandros Grigoropoulos, aged 15, who was murdered by policemen.

Two weeks later, on 17 February 2009, four armed men shot at the offices of ALTER TV.

The next attack was the first murder committed by the "Sect."

On 17 June 2009 in Patissia, the terrorists shot anti-terrorist Nektarios Savvas. The 41-year-old policeman was shot eight times in his official car while guarding a witness in the case against the terrorist organization "Revolutionary People's Struggle", specifically Sofia Kiriakidou, the ex-wife of defendant at the time Angeletos Kanas. A total of 24 bullets were fired during the shooting. The "Sect" assumed responsibility for the murder, again with a proclamation sent to a newspaper.

The last attack by the group was the murder of journalist Sokratis Giolias, who was killed at dawn on 19 July 2010 at the entrance of his home where his pregnant wife was staying. He was shot pointblank with 20 bullets.

The "Sect" assumed responsibility for the murder almost a month later, again with a proclamation and by sending, for the first time, a photo of the arsenal of the terrorist group (in the photo).
