Greek athlete Grigoris Kriaridis took 11th place in wrestling in the 84 kg category during the European Freestyle Wrestling Championship, which was held in Baku.

The Greek fighter, who during last year's European Championships ranked 7th, this year found himself outside the medal winners after recording only one victory in the last three meetings.

In the second classification round Kriaridis won with 3-2 parts (1-0, 0-2, 2-0) against Ivan Yankuski from Belarus. Subsequently, however, he lost against Russian Anzor Urisev 9-0 (3-0, 6-0). In the same round he lost with 4-0 parts (1-0, 3-0) against the Italian Anthony Junior Fasugba.

2009 World Cup bronze medalist Yannis Arzoumanidis did not present himself that good during the start of this year's European Championship. In Baku, he managed to win against his opponent from Georgia David Modzmanasvili during the 16th with a 3-1 parts 1 (0-1, 1-2). A little later, he lost with 4-1 parts (0-1, 1-0,3-0) against the Ukrainian Ivan Ishchenko. And so the Greek fighter fell out of the race.

The following Greek wrestlers are taking part in the classic style wrestling championship, held in the capital of Azerbaijan from April 13 to 19: Arthur Hachaturov (60 kg.), Evgenios Pedorets (66 kg.), Petros Manouilidis (74 kg.), Alexandros Pikilidis (84 kg), Theodoros Tounousidis (96 kg.) and Panagiotis Papadopoulos (120 kg.). Women competing in the same style discipline in Baku are: Agoro Papavasiliou (63 kg.) and Maria Luisa Vrioni (72 kg.). The wrestlers in freestyle discipline are: Anastasios Akritidis (66 kg.), Oleg Motsalin (74 kg.), Ioannis Papadopoulos (96 kg.) and Ioannis Arzoumanidis (120 kg.).

Wrestler Kiril Terziev already reached the finals in freestyle wrestling. He won against the representative of the hosts Chamsulvara Chamsulvaraev with 2:0 parts. In the final he will wrestle the representative of Russia Denis Tsargush. (Previously, the Bulgarian won against Gyorg Hard with 2:1 parts and Swiss Marco Reysen with 2:0 parts). Radoslav Velikov won a silver medal in Baku. TDuring the finals in the lightweight (55 kg) he retreated to Mahmud Magomedov (Azerbaijan) with 1:2 parts (1:0, 7:0, 2:4).

April 14 is the second day of freestyle clashes, on 15th and 16th is the women’s race, and on the 17th and 18th is the classic wrestling.
