11 victims of the West Nile virus

Another 2 people died because of the West Nile virus infection. The National Centre for Epidemiology Diseases announced that both victims were elderly people suffering from serious chronic diseases. Another 12 people infected with the Wets Nile virus were registered in the last few days and the total number of infected reached 150 people. 40 of them are hospitalized.

The spraying against the infection spreading mosquitoes continues all over the country. 13 municipalities in Thessaloniki have requested in written disinfesting the places where these insects raise – swamps, septic pits, rivers, overgrowth parks. A special vehicle disinfests Thessaloniki between 10:00 pm and 5:00 am. People are requested to stay at their homes and close the windows in the time of disinfesting avoiding leaving pets and animals outside as well as food, toys and clothes. The used repellents are not dangerous for the human health but they can cause allergic reactions, skin irritation, breathing and stomach disorders.

Piraeus regional administration also took steps to disinfest districts like Kifisu and Neo Faliro where the problem with the mosquitoes is very serious although there in no case of West Nile virus registered in the region.
